Jean Valjean is a dynamic character because he changes throughout the book. When Jean Valjean was first introduced in the book he was very humble he cared about his sisters kids and his sister he worked for them he even cared for them like they were his own but they struggled to afford food. The kids and him and his sister where starving so Jean Valjean decided to steal a loaf of bread he got caught when he was breaking in. He went to jail after escaping and then going back for committing other crimes. He was treated really poorly and unfairly. Which made him cold hearted and started to despise society. He thought everyone was like the cold hearted people the were in jail. Another example, is when Jean Valjean escape prison he was looking for a place to stay he had money but no one would let him stay because they knew that he was a convict.
